KIM BARLOW and VEDA HILLE
Saturday, February 1, 2008 8:00pm Harrison Memorial Hall
Two of western Canada’s eclectic and passionate singer songwriters. Kim Barlow’s songs are wry and impassioned, deft distillations of the beautiful and absurd world she inhabits. Playing guitar and frailing banjo, Barlow creates complex and unexpected settings for her fables of lost children, allegories for love and loss, and songs of protest.
Veda Hille started playing piano when she was 6 at her own insistence. She attended art school studying sculpture, film, and performance art and began writing music in 1990. In 1994 she released her first CD, \'Path of a Body\', and has released an album roughly every 18 months since then.

WAILIN\' JENNYS
Friday, February 8 8:00pm Harrison Memorial Hall
\"One Voice,\" a highlight of the Jennys\' Juno- winning debut album 40 Days, remains a metaphoric statement of intent that to this day underlines the group\'s original mandate: three individuals with unique gifts combining seamlessly into a single beatific entity. Soprano Ruth Moody (guitar, banjo, accordion, bodhran) and mezzo Nicky Mehta (guitar, harmonica, ukulele, percussion) are charter members who\'ve anchored the Jennys since the first line-up formed in their Winnipeg hometown. The critical third voice, an alto who fills out the chordal range of the group\'s vibrant three-part harmonies, has been filled by new recruit Heather Masse, who passed an auditioned in a restroom in Philadelphia.
Tickets: $18.00 plus gst
